For European Women in Endocrinology (EUWIN)
ESE established European Women in Endocrinology (EUWIN), a peer-to-peer community to support women in endocrinology throughout Europe.
ESE's support for European Women in Endocrinology
The aim of the EUWIN community is to provide support, guidance and advice and to improve opportunities for women in European endocrinology and within ESE. We are delighted to be working with the group’s founders: Cynthia Andoniadou (UK), Wiebke Arlt (UK) and Jenny Visser (The Netherlands).
EUWIN’s primary aim is to enhance networking and collaboration between women in European endocrinology, importantly including mentoring and support for the career advancement of young female trainees and investigators, and those returning to work following a career break.
We celebrated the official EUWIN launch event at ECE 2022 which many delegates attended. We used the opportunity to gather ideas from delegates at the event as well as asking ESE Members’ opinions via a Membership Survey about what support women in endocrinology feel they need. This has helped us to develop a clear plan for moving forward.
One of the key benefits of ESE membership is the opportunity to be part of a community of like-minded individuals you can connect with, and access to information and resources tailored to your role and career stage.
If you would like to be part of the EUWIN community and receive relevant mailings, register here.
We are currently focussing on the following activities. If you have ideas for EUWIN please email EUWIN.
We send regular mailings to the EUWIN community on relevant ESE events, support and activities. You can register to join this community and receive mailings by completing the registration form.
We are in the process of developing an informal peer-to-peer mentorship programme. If you are interested in becoming either a Mentor or Mentee, please tick the option within the registration form.
We have run a EUWIN networking reception at ECE for the last three years. It was great to see so many of you at the reception drinks and update at ECE 2024 in Stockholm - each year our EUWIN community is growing! This year, for the first time, we also ran a European Women in Endocrinology symposium, showcasing excellent abstracts submitted by women, which which was really well received, and well attended.
We apologise for having to postpone the ESE Talks.. event on 3 October, If you would like to register your interest for the next EUWIN led ESE Talks... event, we can let you know when the date is announced. Register your interest
We ran two ESE Talks... EUWIN led events in 2023, providing advice on applying for Committees and Awards. We are aiming for gender equality in both of these areas to achieve equal representation on all ESE Committees, as well as improve the balance of nominations for awards. You can still catch up on the recordings which provide some excellent advice; ESE Talks... Committees and ESE Talks... Demystifying Awards.
The EUWIN group is actively encouraging women to self-nominate for ESE Awards, Grants and positions on Committees and Boards – within medical societies and associations (not just within ESE). You can watch recordings from the two 2023 ESE Talks... EUWIN led events on Committees and Awards which provide some excellent advice. The ESE Awards are now closed for 2025 nominations.
The EYES Exchange Programmes (Observership) Grants provide excellent learning opportunities for European early career investigators. Applications are now closed for 2024, and applications for the 2025 Observership Grants will open in December 2024.
ESE recognises the challenges faced by scientists in obtaining research funding from major European research funding schemes and has developed the ESE-SEEDER-EU programme to help our members by supporting them during the application and writing process.
If you would like further information on grant proposal writing, you may find it useful to watch this video recording from a previous ESE Talks... session we ran on Practical Skills for Researchers, which was one of a three-part series.
If you would like any career support advice, please email EUWIN,
To support women in endocrinology, we provide and endorse courses, like the ESE.. Talks webinars led by EUWIN which focus on different topics to help women with their career progression.
