ESE at the 36th Brazilian Congress of Endocrinology and Metabolism

This year’s Congress of the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (SBEM) was a particularly remarkable event. Professor Jérôme Bertherat, the current president of the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE), not only delivered an exceptional talk but also facilitated a pivotal meeting that brought together the EYES (European Young Endocrinologists and Scientists) Committee and the Young Brazilian Committee of Endocrinologists.

At this meeting, Walter Vena, EYES co-chair, and Júnia R.O.L. Schweizer, the Ambassador of the Bilateral Observership Programme (BOP) between Europe and Brazil, shared valuable insights with young Brazilian endocrinologists. They highlighted the cooperation between European and Brazilian Societies and detailed the opportunities provided by the BOP. which was established in 2023. At this event the Brazilian Young Committee, under the leadership of Prof. Marisa Lazaretti, Dr. Tayane Filgueiras and Dr. Nathália Lisboa, also gave mentorship for Medical Students and young fellows in the Project “Future Endocrinologists”.

The BOP allows European endocrinologists to engage in observerships at leading Brazilian centers and vice versa. In Brazil, the program is spearheaded by Professor Cesar Boguszewski, a renowned and highly awarded figure in the field. Prof. Boguszewski, a Full Professor at the Federal University of Paraná in Curitiba and current President of SBEM’s International Committee, has an extensive international profile. This year, he received two prestigious accolades: the International Excellence in Endocrinology Award from the Endocrine Society and the “Antônio Barros de Ulhôa Cintra” Award. His impressive academic journey includes a PhD from Gothenburg, Sweden, and key roles such as previously serving on the Board of Directors of the Endocrine and the Pituitary Society, contributing as an Associate Editor for the European Journal of Endocrinology and as a member of editorial boards for several journals.

The collaboration between ESE, its EYES committee and SBEM reinforces the importance of global partnerships in advancing endocrinology. If you’re eager to be part of this dynamic exchange, stay tuned for updates on the ESE website about the BOP and other exciting initiatives. Don't miss your chance to experience this unique opportunity to learn and grow through international collaboration!
