The European Society of Endocrinology (ESE), together with the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) have collaborated to hold a European examination in Endocrinology, with pan-European governance, developed by highly-qualified endocrinologists, and supported by National Endocrine Societies across Europe. The first examination was sat in 2018, and continues to be a highly regarded and respected examination.
We are pleased to announce that the next sitting of this examination will be held on Friday ,13 December 2024, by remote invigilation (see FAQ section for more details).
The European Board Examination in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (EBEEDM) has been designed to assess a candidate’s knowledge of the clinical sciences relevant to the medical practice in Endocrinology and of the most common or important disorders to a level appropriate for a newly appointed specialist in Endocrinology. The EBEEDM also assesses the ability to interpret information and solve clinical problems. Further details about areas of knowledge and experience in Endocrinology can be found in the ESE Curriculum.
The EBEEDM consists of two 3-hour single best answer papers and is delivered in a computer-based format via remote invigilation. Detailed information about format and regulations of the examination can be found here.
The EBEEDM is governed by an Exam Board and developed by the Question Writing and Standard Setting Groups. The Exam Board is co-chaired by Professor Mark Gurnell (UK) and Professor Graham Roberts (Ireland), nominated by ESE and UEMS respectively. The Standard Setting Group is co-chaired by Professor Mirjam Christ-Crain (Switzerland) and Professor Graham Roberts (Ireland).
The EBEEDM is supported, from a logistics perspective, by the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI), who provide an end-to-end solution to both ESE and UEMS for the administration of the examination.
ESE provides a limited number of Examination Grants to cover 50% of the cost of the EBEEDM registration fee. These grants are available to ESE members who are in both the ‘in-training’ and ‘reduced rate’ categories. Applications for the ESE Examination Grant are now closed. Find out more here.
